Out & About
By Times staff Hot Soup and Hot Flash to performHot Soup and Hot Flash heat up the night with plenty of folk and bluegrass music. Hot Soup, a female folk trio, recently released their CD Soup Happens. It ranked 23 out of all CDs played on folk and bluegrass radio based on frequency of reported air play. Band members Christina Muir, Jennifer Agner and Sue Trainor blend their vocals with such instruments as the banjo, ukulele, bass, accordion, guitar, mountain dulcimer and a variety of percussion instruments. All three are talented performers with solo recordings. Trainor was named Best New Artist for Young Children in 1999. Muir, daughter of Ann Mayo Muir (of Bok, Trickett and Muir fame), builds on her musical heritage with contemporary songwriting, vocals and lyrical instrumentation. Agner adds soprano vocals and her skills on guitar, banjo and accordion. The opening band, Hot Flash, is a local traditional folk trio comprised of Rochelle Morris, Jan Milner and Linda Fackeldey. They play multiple instruments including the guitar, Autoharp and lap dulcimer. The concert is at 8 tonight at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tampa, 11400 Morris Bridge Road. Tickets are $10 at the door. For information, call 218-3463.
