Mother, 22, charged with child neglect

NEW PORT RICHEY -- A 22-year-old mother was arrested Wednesday after investigators said her children were dirty and her kitchen was littered with moldy food.

Emily Turner of 5540 James St. No. 8 in New Port Richey faces a charge of child neglect, according to a New Port Richey police report.

The report does not say how many children Turner has or how old they are. It states that Turner fell asleep while investigators tried to interview her.

Turner was unable to answer simple questions, the report states. The investigators removed the children.

Turner was being held Thursday night at county jail in Land O'Lakes in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Man faces charges in Feb. 14 car chase

PORT RICHEY -- A man who eluded police in an early morning chase two weeks ago was arrested Wednesday morning, officers said.

Jesse John Brooks, 21, of 4307 Beacon Square Drive, was arrested at Harbor Behavioral Health Care Institute, according to a Port Richey police report. He faces charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding, driving with a suspended license, willful/wanton reckless driving and resisting arrest without violence.

The charges stem from a Feb. 14 chase that started about 2:20 a.m. on U.S. 19 and ended on Plathe Road, police said.

According to reports, Brooks reached speeds of more than 75 mph, drove at an officer before veering off, ran 12 stop signs or stop lights, drove the wrong way on a one-way street and crashed into a parked van before escaping on foot.

He was out on bail on an unrelated charge, and that bail has been revoked, Pasco County sheriff's deputies said.

Brooks was being held Thursday night at county jail in Land O'Lakes in lieu of $21,000 bail.
