Jackie Brown, No. 50

AGE: 58

POSITION: Pitching coach

PLAYING CAREER: Spent parts of seven seasons in the majors, pitching in Washington (for Ted Williams), Texas (for Billy Martin), Cleveland and Montreal. ... Was the Rangers' No. 3 starter behind Ferguson Jenkins and Jim Bibby in 1974, going 13-12. ... Was traded to Cleveland with Bibby, Rick Waits and $100,000 for Gaylord Perry in 1975, then to Montreal in 1976 for Andre Thornton. ... Had career record of 47-53 with 4.18 ERA.

COACHING CAREER: Was pitching coach for Rangers in 1979-82 and White Sox 1992-95. Sox twice led AL in ERA during his tenure. ... Has been out of baseball since serving as Rays' minor-league pitching coordinator 1996-97. ... Was Pirates' Triple-A pitching coach 1986-91, working with Hal McRae.

POSITION: Third-base coach

PLAYING CAREER: Spent 13 seasons in the major leagues, playing for Reds, Phillies, Expos and Pirates mostly as a utility infielder. ... Had .244 career average and as many home runs (32) as stolen bases 32. ... Besides playing all four infield positions, also pitched once.

COACHING/MANAGING/FRONT OFFICE CAREER: First major-league coaching assignment. ... Served as minor-league field coordinator in 1996 and managed Rays' inaugural rookie league team, the Butte (Mont.) Copper Kings to Pioneer League playoffs. ... Was director of minor-league operations 1997-2000, then returned to field coordinator duties. ... Managed in 2001 Arizona Fall League.

POSITION: Hitting coach

PLAYING CAREER: Spent 15 seasons as a catcher in the major leagues, playing for Pirates, Astros, Tigers, White Sox and Giants. ... Played in 1971 World Series for Pittsburgh. ... Had .263 career average with 77 home runs. ... Played at St. Petersburg High School.

COACHING CAREER: Was major-league hitting coach for 10 seasons in Pittsburgh (1987-96) and two with Florida (1997-98). ... Was Colorado pitching coach in 1999. ... Scouted for Colorado in 2000, then spent 2001 season as Pirates minor-league hitting coordinator.
