Daily fishing report

Another cold front is upon us. This is a regular occurance during winter.

Bass respond by feeding actively, even schooling (chasing baitfish). These fish can be caught on most lures. My preference is a rattling crankbait, a fast-moving bait that can cover water fast and resembles the bait bass are feeding on.

Once the front arrives, they will become inactive. The extreme barometric pressure affects the bait fish, which in turn affects the feeding of the bass. Bass will respond by moving into heavy grass or moving deep and suspending.

Because suspending fish are difficult to catch, I take out my flipping stick and flip the heaviest grass I can find. A plastic crawdad imitation will get more bites than a worm or lizard. Flipping allows you to put the lure in the bass' strike zone.

Being predators, bass often attack the lure even though it is not actively feeding. Be persistent and patient. The bite will get better in a couple of days or just before the next cold front.
