Jefferson swingman Tarence Kinsey was named the Class 4A player of the year by the Florida Dairy Farmers Association.
The 6-foot-6 senior is Jefferson's all-time leading scorer, finishing his career with more than 1,800 points. Kinsey led the Dragons to the regional semifinals, averaging 24.8 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists. He also was named the Western Conference player of the year.
"This was a wonderful surprise for us," Jefferson coach Doug Greseth said. "I think he really showed during the last month and a half that he was one of the top players in the state of Florida. This is a testament to a guy who worked really hard from the time he was a sophomore."
Kinsey will receive his award during halftime of the Class 4A state final March 9. Kinsey also is one of six finalists in the running for the title of Florida's Mr. Basketball.
