Carrollwood swimmers head to all-star meet
By TERRY JONES CARROLLWOOD -- Carrollwood Village Swim Team will be well represented in next week's Senior State Championships, as 13 boys and girls made the cut. "Our kids have been working hard to earn spots in both the Junior Olympics and senior championships," coach Jim Kelly said. "Based on Florida Swimming's top 10 rankings, several of our kids have good shots at making the all-star teams. They are all looking forward to good swims." They will compete March 14-17 at the Long Center in Clearwater. Qualified contenders for the all-star boys and girls teams include Megan Cook, 12, Jenn-Jenn Mackey, 12, Carly Cavalieri, 14, and Jeff Mueller, 14. Other Carrollwood qualifiers hoping to also win honors include Carrie Foster, 12, Britny Went, 13, Katrina Cooke, 15, Becky Bird, 16, Meredith Lynch, 16, Veronica Medina, 16, and Amy Mueller, 17. Myles O'Keefe, 15, and Grant Nelson, 16, are the other boys qualified for the meet. Swimmers as young as 9 will compete in the Florida Swimming Junior Olympic Championships Thursday through Sunday at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
