Al-Arian prepares to take students on a mock pilgrimage to Mecca to mark the Festival of Sacrifice. When the 10-year-old Islamic Academy of Florida began, the school was so poor that classrooms were no bigger than oversized closets, and students had to build their desks. NBA basketball star Hakeem Olajuwon paid for a significant portion of the school's 14-acre grounds.
