911 call sends people scrambling

INVERNESS -- Some residents were evacuated and traffic was blocked on U.S. 41 between State Road 44 E and Mossy Oak Drive on Friday as police investigated what turned out to be a false alarm. An elderly woman dialed 911 about 10:40 a.m. and told dispatchers her son was threatening her and had locked himself in the bathroom of her mobile home with a gun, Inverness police Lt. Lee Alexander said. Officers scrambled to the Moss Oak mobile home park and eventually stormed the mobile home, only to find no man. The elderly woman, whose name was not released, does not face any criminal charges, Alexander said.
