Woman's generosity defined her
By BRADY DENNIS, Times Staff Writer DADE CITY -- They remembered her for various acts of kindness. But each remembered her for the same thing: Marilyn Brown would do anything for anybody. Brown, 48, of Dade City, was killed Wednesday morning when the taxi she was driving slammed into the back of a John Deere tractor on St. Joe Road, west of the city. Authorities said another cab in front of Brown swerved around the tractor, but by the time she saw it, she didn't have time to do the same. Farm worker Eimigdo Perez-Convarruvias of Dade City, who was riding on the back of the tractor, also died in the collision. Relatives of Perez-Convarruvias couldn't be located for comment. On Friday, Brown's fiance and relatives were still coming to terms with the tragedy. "I was in Maryland working a construction job when I got the news, and I flew back that night," said Danny Yancy, 36, Brown's fiance. "It was the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with." Brown had six children: three boys, three girls. She also had 10 grandchildren. Joy to her was spending time with them, Young said. "She cared about her family," he said. "That was everything to her. That was her life." Brown's oldest son, Kenny, 33, said his mother's trademark was generosity. "What I'll remember most about her is that she liked to help people," Kenny Brown said. "She had a real big heart." Family members said her final day of life was an example. She was returning from her daily trip of taking Medicaid patients for treatment in New Port Richey. Brown will be buried in DeLand, where she is originally from, family members said. A funeral has tentatively been set for Monday. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
