Pasco is pushover in battle against adult businesses

Editor: Have the people of Pasco County been sold out by the County Commission? When I read about the county commissioners asking the attorney who represents the interest of the local adult businesses for legal advice, I thought that it must be an April fool's joke. It appears that the commission is now pandering to the wants and wishes of Pasco's adult businesses.

Every land developer and billboard company attorney now knows that Pasco County is just a pushover and that their clients can get everything they want by threatening to sue the county.

Yes, it takes guts and real determination to win this fight. The people spoke up and demanded that the county take action to enforce the current zoning and licensing laws, but the county commissioners seem to lack the will to get the job done.

This is the reason that we now have our own red light district that's been growing bigger than many other adjoining county's.

There have always been required setback distances that preclude these types of adult business from operating near homes and from each other.

None of these adult businesses have ever been issued the proper licenses to operate within Pasco County, so one could only assume that they couldn't be grandfathered into a nonexistent class.

If we let these businesses dictate whether or not they should comply with the law, then we must let all illegal business do the same.

Does the County Commission really need to hear the wish list that passes for legal advice from the attorney who only represents the interest of these adult businesses? This isn't a joke -- it's more like a nightmare.

Quit wasting money in lost cause

Editor: To the politicians of Pasco County: Enough already. You want to send another $37,500 of Pasco taxpayers' money to two firms in Tampa, Hillsborough County, to rewrite laws against dance clubs and lingerie modeling shops.

Guess what? It is the constitutional right of any citizen to frequent those places should he or she wish. If anyone else is offended, they should stay away from those places and not try to force their moral beliefs on anyone else.

We don't need more restrictive laws. We need more people with common sense which seems to be sorely lacking among our politicians and our residents.

To those opposed to such places, how do you know what goes on there if you don't frequent them yourself, and on what authority have you appointed yourself lord and master and overseer of our morals?

Get a life, people, and quit wasting my money.

Chickens could have fed hungry

Editor: I was very disturbed by the story of the Cypress Foods egg farm failure.

If those involved can afford to have the chickens euthanized and disposed of, why on Earth can't they find a way to have them processed and used as food to feed hungry people? It is reminiscent of the dust bowl days when farmers burned crops while people starved.
