Beach forum is delayed by TV glitches

ST. PETE BEACH -- City Clerk Theresa McMaster said technical problems with city equipment prevented the showing of a videotaped candidate forum on public access cable television Saturday.

The forum was scheduled to air at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, but McMaster could not get the broadcast to work. It finally aired at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, and she plans also to run it at noon and 6 p.m. today and Monday.

The city election, in which residents will elect a mayor and two commissioners and vote on two referendums, is March 12.

McMaster said she received complaints Saturday from residents who thought the city had intentionally canceled the forum broadcasts to keep the information from the public.

"The people are already so upset with everything with this election that I hate to frustrate them even more," McMaster said.

She said she would also make copies of the forum available to city residents for $1 at City Hall, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive.
