Bluegrass festivalBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published March 10, 2002 The 2002 Rotary Roundup Bluegrass and Art Festival is the baby among the three weekend events. Sponsored by the St. Petersburg Midtown Rotary Club, this first-year festival was rained out in February. All the bands promised that day are scheduled to appear Sunday. The detailsDay: Sunday Hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Place: England Brothers Band Shell and surrounding park, 52nd Street and 81st Avenue N. Parking: Streets near the event, the Pinellas Park Library and City Hall lots. Handicapped parking is the north side of City Hall on 52nd Street N. Crowd expected: As Pinellas Park spokesman Tim Caddell says, "Bunches." Cost: Admission and parking are free, but food, drink and some activities require money. Who benefits: The Pinellas Association for Retarded Children and other community charities. Kinds of food available: Hot dogs, hamburgers, cotton candy, Kettle Korn, sodas, beer. Exhibits: Juried arts and crafts booths. Things to do: Games, raffle. Music headliner: Southern Star Bluegrass, which has played at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry, the Florida State Fair for the past 11 years, and the Florida Strawberry Festival for the past 15 years. Among their repertoire are such favorites as Rocky Top, Dueling Banjos and Fox on the Run. They also play gospel favorites such as Amazing Grace and Family Bible. Scheduled for 3:15 p.m. Other bands: The Suncoast Mountain Bluegrass Band; Flatlands Bluegrass Band; Moe Harrington and the Manatee River Band; and Steve Stadler, a fiddle player.
