SEMINOLE -- The Kiwanis Club of Seminole came home with 15 awards from the Florida District convention last month in Orlando, including a second place in the Club of the Year competition, president Bob Sims announced.

Although the club's overall success record was set in 1999, when it won 16 awards, the Seminole Kiwanians earned the most awards this year among the more than 350 clubs in the Florida district. That includes clubs from throughout the state and a few from the Caribbean.

First-place awards were given to the club for five projects including Horses and the Handicapped; youth services; K-Kids, a Kiwanis-sponsored program at Bauder, Oakhurst, Ridgecrest and Seminole elementary schools; Young Children Priority One; and for the Every Child A Swimmer program.

Besides the Club of the Year competition, second-place awards were earned by the 51-member club in the Builders Club category (Builders Club is the Kiwanis-sponsored program for youngsters at Seminole and Madeira Beach middle schools); for community service; in the scrapbook category and for the weekly bulletin.

General awards were also given for the club's Caring Corner participation (handicrafts sold by spouses of Kiwanis members at the convention); the Honor Club single service award for Horses and the Handicapped; for distinguished president and secretary; for achievement and administration and for human and spiritual values. These awards can be earned by more than one club.

The first-place winners will be entered for consideration at the International Kiwanis Convention in June in New Orleans.
