Highs and lows

HIGHS

JON GRUDEN'S FREE-AGENT PITCH: Other NFL teams woo free agents at five-star restaurants, but the new Bucs coach is not one to put on airs, going the wings-and-beer route as he entertained Pro Bowl tight end Ken Dilger at Hooters. No wonder he is considered a player's coach.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: It's the most wonderful time of the year, baby!

LOWS

ESPN: In book form, A Season on the Brink was a compelling look inside the Indiana University basketball program. In movie form, it seems to be an over-hyped caricature of a complex man.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Taking John McHale to work in the league office is probably a good move for baseball, but it makes us nervous for the potential impact the Rays.
