For the second time in three years, the Times' daily sports coverage has been rated one of the 10 best among the biggest newspapers in the country by the Associated Press Sports Editors.
In contest judging last week, the APSE rated the Times, the only Tampa Bay newspaper to compete in the prestigious large newspaper category (with circulations over 250,000), as one of the 10 best, joining the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Boston Globe, Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Los Angeles Times, Newark Star-Ledger, New York Daily News, Newsday and USA Today.
The APSE, a national organization of newspaper sports editors, singled out the Times' strong coverage of last year's Super Bowl XXXV in Tampa in honoring the newspaper.
The honor marks the sixth time in the past seven years the Times has been designated a Top 10 sports section, earning recognition for daily coverage (1999, 2001), Sunday coverage (1995, 1998, 2000) and for special sections (1996, 1999).
