Council member treated for blood clot
By ANNE LINDBERG, Times Staff Writer PINELLAS PARK -- Council member Patricia Bailey-Snook was hospitalized Monday with a blood clot. The problem was discovered during a visit to Bailey-Snook's family physician, Pinellas Park spokesman Tim Caddell said Tuesday. "She went directly from there to (Bayfront) hospital," Caddell said. Once admitted, she called the city clerk's office and asked that her husband, who was traveling on business, be contacted. "They said that she has a blood clot," Caddell said of the report from the clerk's office. "They didn't know where it was, but she was in the hospital for at least five days and may need surgery." Bailey-Snook was listed in fair condition Tuesday at Bayfront Medical Center, St. Petersburg. Hospital spokeswoman Cassandra Morrell said Bailey-Snook was responding well to treatment and resting comfortably. Bailey-Snook, 66, is a longtime member of the Pinellas Park Council. She served from 1972 through 1982; she left after being elected to one term in the state House of Representatives. She returned to the council in 1987 and has served continuously since then. She has had repeated physical problems since about 1998, when she was injured in an automobile accident. She had numerous surgeries and at times was heavily medicated. She missed several meetings and attended many in a neck brace. City officials sometimes would drive her to and from meetings. Her pain sometimes was so severe she would lay her head on the desk. Once or twice she had to be helped from the room. In 2000, she was hospitalized for several days after suffering a minor stroke. Her health then seemed to improve, and later that year she remarried John Lee Snook in Loganton, Pa. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
