Airman William Doerrler, son of Debra and John Doerrler of St. Petersburg, has completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He has been transferred to Biloxi, Miss., for meteorology training.

Doerrler, a 1997 graduate of Northeast High School, will attend school in Biloxi for five months.

Sgt. Blair Osten, son of Warren and Ellen Osten of St. Petersburg, was promoted to his present rank after completing a primary leadership development course at the McCrady Training Center in Eastover, S.C.

Osten completed a light-wheeled vehicle mechanics course in 2000 at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C., where he finished basic training in 1999. While on deployment to Germany in November, he completed a combat mechanic training course.

Osten was selected Soldier of the Year for his unit, then earned the Soldier of the Year honors at battalion, area support group and brigade levels. He was a runner-up for Army Reserves Soldier of the Year. He also has earned three Army achievement medals for serving as a noncommissioned officer in charge by initiative rather than orders, volunteer recruiting above the standard, and Soldier of the Year.

He has been awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Reserves Components Achievement Medal, the Army Reserves Component Overseas Ribbon and the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon.

Osten is a 2000 graduate of Boca Ciega High.
