HOME IS SCHOOL: Home Is School, a new support group for home schooling in Citrus County invites home school families to the next meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at the Lecanto Multipurpose Senior Center, 1410 County Road 491, Lecanto. LITTLE RED SCHOOLHOUSE: Citrus County Schools invites community members to attend the Little Red Schoolhouse Academy from 9:30 a.m. to noon or 6:30 to 9 p.m. April 8, 15, 22 and 29 to learn about school related topics, including curriculum, budget, safety and special programs. CFCC EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY CENTER: The Educational Opportunity Center at Central Florida Community College's Citrus County Campus offers free counseling and advisement services to help qualifying students build a better future, with individual guidance from the admissions process through graduation. The center provides assistance in completing forms and exploring career interests and opportunities, and sponsors tutoring and mentoring workshops.

To learn more, attend one of the upcoming free information sessions at CFCC Citrus Campus, Lecanto: 6:30 p.m. April 4 and 10 a.m. April 5. There's no obligation, just the chance to learn more about the CFCC Educational Opportunity Center. Financial aid workshops will be offered a week after each information session. PREKINDERGARTEN, HEAD START AND SUBSIDIZED CHILD CARE APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE: Applications for prekindergarten, Head Start and subsidized child care are now available at any county elementary school and the Childhood Development Services Office at 5641 U.S. 41 in Crystal River.

ANNUAL CONGRESSIONAL ARTS COMPETITION: U.S. Rep. Karen Thurman invites public, private and home school high school students to enter An Artistic Discovery, the 21st Annual Congressional Arts Competition. The winning artist in the national art competition is invited to Washington, D.C., for a reception honoring the contest winners. District winners are displayed on the walls of the Cannon Tunnel which leads to the Capitol Building. Each district winner also receives an opportunity to attend The Savannah College of Art and Design and a $10,000 scholarship upon admission acceptance. Submit work to any of Thurman's offices in Inverness, Gainesville or New Port Richey with name, address, telephone number, school and name of sponsoring art teacher. Deadline is May 1. BREAKFAST WITH THE EASTER BUNNY: Homosassa Elementary School will host its annual Breakfast with the Easter Bunny from 8 to 11 a.m. March 16. Breakfast will include pancakes and sausage. Entertainment will be provided by the Homosassa students performing a variety of musical selections. Pictures with the Easter Bunny will be available. Breakfast is $3.25 for adults and $2.25 for students. Tickets can be bought in advance or at the door. Proceeds will benefit the school's physical education department. NEW GED: The newest version of the GED has been released. In GED 2002, examinees will notice more updated work force-related questions and colorful graphics included in the test booklets. Three sections will have fewer questions and a scientific calculator will be permitted for one of the two mathematics sections. Examinees must be 18 years or older.

Applicants must attend a GED orientation prior to the test. This session will include registration, paying of fees, scheduling for the test and an introduction to the scientific calculator. Examinees are encouraged to enroll in free GED preparation classes at WTI and other Citrus County locations. Prep classes allow students to practice on the scientific calculator, the opportunity to take the GED practice test and individual instruction. Testing space is limited. OPEN HOUSE: Dunnellon High School will hold an open house for incoming ninth graders at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the school cafeteria. It will include a tour of the school, club displays and academic and athletic program information. Students should bring their scheduling folders. For information, call 465-6745.

IPS SAEC MEETING: Inverness Primary School will hold a School Advisory Enhancement Council meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Professional Development Center. The meeting will focus on a continuation of development of the School Improvement Plan.

WTI NAIL SPECIALTY TECHNICIAN CLASS: Withlacoochee Technical Institute is offering a summer nail specialty technician class from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. from June 3 to August 1 Monday through Thursday. Attendance is mandatory and no absences will be allowed. The cost is $600 and includes tuition, books, kit and materials. Financial assistance is available. For information, call 726-2430.
