Bank robber sentenced to 15 years in prisonBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published March 14, 2002 BROOKSVILLE -- David Wayne Potts pleaded guilty last week to robbing two Spring Hill banks in November and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Potts, 37, of 7311 Mina Ave., west of Brooksville, robbed the Bank of America on Spring Hill Drive on Nov. 15 and made off with about $1,800. He also robbed the Compass Bank on Mariner Boulevard, snatching about $600 from a teller on Nov. 20. After a weeklong search for Potts, authorities arrested him near mobile homes off Wiscon Road. They said Potts wore makeup to conceal a strawberry birthmark on his cheek that had linked him to both robberies. Potts pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery, as well as grand theft, fleeing to elude a law enforcement officer and violating his parole on drug and fraud charges. Potts has prior convictions for robbery, grand theft and possession of narcotics. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
