Pasco previews new electronic ballot Friday
By Times staff writer DADE CITY -- The Pasco County Supervisor of Elections Office is planning a countywide demonstration day Friday for the new iVotronic voting machines that will replace the old punch card system this year. With schools out for the day, elections officials will have a demonstration machine at every public school in the county, according to chief deputy supervisor Melba Hamilton. "We want the general public to go to all their schools and try out the new machines," Hamilton said. "We need a really big push to get people there, to get them to see the new equipment." Hamilton said that with students off for the day, it would be a good opportunity for parents to show the equipment to their children who might not get to see the voting machines on a busy election day. The machines will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. The machines are very different from the punch card system, Hamilton said. Even experienced voters will learn something new at the demonstrations. The machines are scheduled for their first use during municipal elections April 9 and all over the county during primary elections Sept. 10. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
