Canyon to toast the Irish with songs

The band Razz Ma Tazz will perform as part of a two-day St. Patrick's Day celebration.

A musical salute to St. Patrick's Day will be today and Saturday at Rock Crusher Canyon Garden Pavilion.

The festivities will include a concert by Razz Ma Tazz, playing many of the classic and beloved Irish songs which are part of the holiday and a themed buffet meal.

Razz Ma Tazz is the pavilion house band, and its breezy Dixieland style will have an Irish lilt to it this weekend, said bandleader Johnny Baier.

"I must have had a strange childhood, because I learned all these great Irish songs, and this is about the only time of the year I really get to sing them," he said.

Baier said the band will perform the classic Irish songs such as When Irish Eyes Are Smiling, McNamara's Band and My Wild Irish Rose.

"We'll even have a singing contest for Danny Boy," Baier said.

Razz Ma Tazz features Baier on tenor banjo and lead vocals, along with Randy Morris on piano, Warren Sauer on drums and Jim Buchman on clarinet. For the St. Patrick's Day concerts, Morris will also play accordion in"For that folksy feel," Baier said. Local singer Ivy Ford will also appear for a guest spot each night.

The menu will include corn beef and cabbage, along with special Irish recipes for chowder and dessert. Cost is $18. Doors open at 5 p.m. Rock Crusher Canyon is at 275 S Rock Crusher Road. Call 795-1313.

OTHER ST. PATRICKS'S DAY EVENTS

The by West Citrus Elks of Homosassa will have St. Patrick's Day Dinner and Dance today. Dinner served from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the lodge, 7890 W Grover Cleveland Blvd. Entree, choice of the traditional Irish favorite, corned beef and cabbage or fish with potatoes, veggie, salad, rolls, coffee, and dessert. Dance to the music of Dan Lewis on the keyboard. Donation: $8 per person. Members and guests only. No reservations. Pay at the door.

The Knights of Columbus-Abbot Francis Sadlier Council 6168 will have its annual St. Patrick's Day Picnic from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdayon the council grounds, corner of County Road 486 and Pine Cone Avenue.

The menu includes McHamburgers, Frank O' Furters, Shaughnessy Sausages with onions and peppers plus the usual side dishes. Soda will be available. Bring other drinks as well as chairs and a table. The event will be held outside. Tickets are $5 per person and can be obtained from council members or by calling Bob Medley, 746-6875, Kevin Madigan, 746-7621 or Don Irwin, 527-8450.
