Blaze damages physical therapy building at USFBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published March 19, 2002 TAMPA -- A rooftop blaze broke out Monday night at the University of South Florida's physical therapy building, causing an estimated $35,000 in damage. The fire broke out just after 9 p.m. at 3515 E Fletcher Ave. when hot tar that had been applied to the one-story building failed to cool and instead caught on fire, said Elizabeth Hall with USF police. Tampa fire crews had extinguished the one-alarm blaze by 10:15 p.m. USF police said a few employees were working in the building at the time and had to be evacuated but no one was injured. It was unclear if the building, which was still filled with smoke Monday night would open this morning. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
