By Times staff writer Training course offered for mental health techniciansLECANTO -- The Brown Schools of Florida and Central Florida Community College on Tuesday announced creation of a new certification program for people who wish to become mental health technicians. The program is specifically designed for students pursuing careers caring for emotionally, mentally, developmentally and/or physically impaired patients. Students must complete 45 hours of theory and 40 hours of clinical experience. Classes will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays for 15 weeks, starting in May. Clinical training will be held at the Brown Schools. An information session will be at 6 p.m. March 27 at the CFCC campus on County Road 491 in Lecanto. Financial assistance may be available. Students will be required to have a drug screening and background check as part of the application process. For information, contact Sharon Facto at 527-7311.
