By Times staff writer Teenager hurt during mailbox-bashing rideMASARYKTOWN -- A 17-year-old was treated for a minor concussion after a friend accidentally hit him on the head with a baseball bat while bashing mailboxes in Masaryktown on Tuesday night, authorities said. The friend, also 17, was charged with culpable negligence and attempting to commit criminal mischief. The Times is withholding his name because he is a minor. Authorities said the injured boy, who lives west of Brooksville, was riding with three friends and trying to bash mailboxes. He sat in the front passenger seat holding a wooden club while his friend leaned out the back window and swung an aluminum baseball bat at several mailboxes, authorities said. The friend missed and accidentally hit the other boy, authorities said. He fell unconscious and was taken to Spring Hill Regional Hospital. The friend was taken to jail and released to his parents. None of the other teens was charged, said Lt. Joe Paez of the Sheriff's Office. Central High student charged with selling crackBROOKSVILLE -- A 17-year-old was arrested at Central High School on Tuesday and charged with possession and sale of a controlled substance. Sheriff's deputies obtained a warrant for the student's arrest after taping a transaction in which the student sold crack cocaine, authorities said. The student was booked at the Hernando County Jail and then turned over to the state Department of Juvenile Justice. The Times is withholding the student's name because he is a minor.
