    Oldsmar Days (and Nights)

    The 40th Oldsmar Days and Nights festival kicks off at 5 today at R.E. Olds Park in Oldsmar with a carnival midway and a performance by the Dock Street Band, a Cedar Key group that plays classic rock and roll. Wristbands for unlimited rides will be sold for $12. On Saturday, the three-day festival continues with the 10K, 5K and one-mile Rotary Club Armadillo Run at 7 a.m. At 11 a.m., the Oldsmar Days parade will wind its way through downtown starting at the corner of State Street and St. Petersburg Drive and ending at R.E. Olds Park. From 1:30 to 11 p.m., various bands will perform rock and blues, tropical and bluegrass music. The midway will be open all day, and there will be a classic Oldsmobile car show in the park. Sunday will feature midway rides and activities from noon to 7 p.m., Wing Wars chicken wing tastings at 2 p.m. and a performance by Bill "The Sauce Boss" Wharton and his band, The Ingredients, at 3:15 p.m. R.E. Olds Park is at 107 Shore Drive, Oldsmar.

    Children's play

    An Easter favorite, Peter Rabbit and Friends, will be performed by the Play N Around Traveling Children's Theater at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Tonne Playhouse in the Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive, south of East Bay Drive between Highland Avenue and Seminole Boulevard.     Renaissance Festival

    The 23rd annual Bay Area Renaissance Festival's theme this week is "Highland Celebration." It includes Scottish games, a tug of war and a pipe and drum band from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 400 Central Park Drive, Largo. There will also be live armored jousting, human combat chess matches, stages filled with entertainment, a lively marketplace, games, rides and food. Admission is $12.95 for adults, $10.95 for seniors and $5.95 for children ages 5-12. For information, call (727) 586-5423.

    WORKSHOP: The Creative Community: Women of Vision and Art Education for the Blind will host a free workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Creative Clay, Inc., 176 5th Ave. N, Safety Harbor. Artists, teachers, volunteers and students who work with people with visual impairments are invited to attend. Call (813) 558-5092 to register.

    BAND CONCERT: The Dunedin High School Scottish Highlander Band will host the second annual Cafe Night and Band Fest featuring music, art, refreshments and a silent auction from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Dunedin Fine Art Center, 1143 Michigan Blvd. Students in the band program will perform solo and ensemble pieces. There will be Scottish dancers and pipers. Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for students. Parking is free. Call (727) 298-3322.

    ART SHOW: An exhibit called "Minimalism" featuring abstract paintings by Anne Beaumont and sculpted metal furniture by Robyn Hillary will be on display until April 30 at Snooty Judy's Fine Art Gallery, 514 Skinner Blvd., Dunedin. Call (727) 734-9835.

    COOL YARNS: See "Knit Wits," exotic hand-dyed yarns, needles and other accessories from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Something Fishy Art Gallery, 913 N Fort Harrison Ave., Clearwater. Call (727) 461-FISH.

    ART EXHIBIT: Michael Davis, Susan Granby and Judith Vienneau, three members of The Exhibiting Society of Artists, will show their works at the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce, 1130 Cleveland St., through May 2. The show is open to the public during regular business hours when no meetings are in progress.

    GEM AND JEWELRY SHOW: Dealers from across the country will show and sell gems, jewelry, crystals, minerals, beads and fossils from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday at Harborview Center, 300 Cleveland St., Clearwater.     JAZZ CONCERT: The Endangered Species Swing Band, led by Frank Greenstreet, will play a "Swing into Spring" concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in the community room at the Palm Harbor Library, 2330 Nebraska Ave. Admission is free. Call (727) 784-3332.

    BENEFIT PARTY: Another Time will perform a Beatles tribute at a fundraiser for The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast from 8 p.m. to midnight tonight at the Tampa Bay Conference Center, 6152 126th Ave., Largo.
