Pasco rips Hudson again

DADE CITY -- The last time Hudson faced Pasco, Pirates ace Chris Nyman tossed a no-hitter and struck out 17. Friday night brought a different Pasco left-hander and much of the same luck for the Cobras.

Matt Prowant struck out nine in the Pirates' 10-0 six-inning victory.

"I figured Nyman couldn't show me up against Hudson, so I had to come out strong," said Prowant (3-1), who helped himself with a first-inning solo home run, his third of the year.

Prowant held the Cobras to four hits while brothers Juan and O'Bryan Lopez combined for five to lead the Pirates (13-4). Two of O'Bryan Lopez's three singles came with the bases loaded, bringing home four runs. "Matt's been one of the key guys here for quite some time, and when he's on, he's going to be tough," Pirates coach Ricky Giles said.

With three losses to Pasco, Hudson (11-5) has the consolation of knowing it won't have to face the Pirates again.

Starter Bryan Strawser (5-1) had allowed three earned runs in 302/3 innings entering the game, but gave up four in the first. After Prowant's shot, Lee Cruz and Anton Standifer followed with doubles off the centerfield wall.

"I think he struggled a little early, had to adjust, and if you're playing Pasco, you don't want to be in that position," said Ledbetter."

Strawser's ERA ballooned to 1.71.

"They're a very good hitting team, a little bit along the line of where Zephyrhills was a few years ago: just big, strong, physical kids with power who can really hit the ball."

Pasco has back-to-back district games against Wesley Chapel today and Tuesday, while Hudson looks to rebound at Zephyrhills on Tuesday and against Wesley Chapel on Friday.
