Tampa Palms supervisor named to state board

TAMPA PALMS -- Curtis Stokes of Wyndham Village was recently appointed by Gov. Jeb Bush to the Florida Black Business Investment Board.

Designed to be a catalyst for the development of competitive domestic and international black-owned businesses in Florida, the BBIB supports entrepreneurship and promotes public service.

Stokes, 33, also serves as a supervisor with the Tampa Palms community development district and is vice president and business client manager at Bank of America in Temple Terrace.

Cross Creek Boulevard's new turn lane planned for August

CROSS CREEK -- Construction of an additional left turn lane on Cross Creek Boulevard is scheduled to begin in August, according to transportation officials.

The extra westbound lane is intended to reduce the backup on Cross Creek as drivers turn onto Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. Crews will also lengthen a right-hand lane on Bruce B. Downs from the Winn-Dixie grocery store to Cross Creek Boulevard.

Cost of the project is about $350,000. The city had been waiting for the Florida Department of Transportation to agree to reimburse it for the project, which it did last week, said Jim Burnside, an engineer with the city's transportation department.
