Mosby considers transfer

Calling the news "a shock," Hernando High's Bernice Mosby said she is reconsidering her commitment to Florida after coach Carol Ross' surprising resignation Friday.

"It depends on what they do," Mosby said. "If I don't like it, I'm considering leaving."

Mosby, the Times' All-Suncoast Player of the Year in 2000-01 and 2001-02, orally committed to UF, Connecticut and Louisiana State (twice) before signing with the Gators in November.

She said Ross was the biggest reason she chose Florida.

"I liked the players and the program, but out of all the decisions I made, the head coach was the most important," she said.

Mosby said she will consider Connecticut, LSU, Vanderbilt and North Carolina State. She said she hopes to make a decision in the next few weeks.

If she leaves Florida, NCAA rules require Mosby to sit out a year, said Kathy Cafozzo, Florida's media relations director for women's basketball. If Florida does not grant a release, Mosby will sit out a year and pay for the first year of her education.

Mosby said she is willing to sit.

"Yeah, if I'm not happy," she said. "I just don't want to sit out two years."

USF player dismissed

Freshman center/forward Allison AuBuchon has been dismissed from South Florida's team.

"Allison has been suspended twice ... and I have had to make the decision to dismiss her from the program after she broke university and athletic department policy," coach Jose Fernandez said.

AuBuchon, a 6-footer from Minnesota, played in 27 games (10 starts), and averaged 8.0 points and 4.1 rebounds.

SE MISSOURI: B.J. Smith was hired as coach after leading Northeastern Oklahoma A&M to second place in the NJCAA women's tournament. He replaces Ed Arnzen, who retired after 19 seasons.
