Letters to the EditorsA harder look reveals truth about store's rustic look© St. Petersburg Times published March 29, 2002 I am writing this letter to address the snippet you wrote concerning the Kash n' Karry on the corner of Van Dyke Road and Gunn Highway that appeared in the March 8 North of Tampa. When you stated, "Steve Morris is entitled to his opinion," and "I think the center looks plenty rustic, especially the Kash n' Karry that anchors it," it became quite clear that this article had violated this premise. If you or a staff member had been present at any one of the numerous meetings between the community, the developer and the developer's planner, you would have seen what the community was ultimately striving to obtain. If you or a staff member had been at the County Commission meeting where the picture of the completed project was shown and approved, you would know why we feel the way we do. If you had examined the quantifiable, black-and-white correspondence in our possession, you would realize this is not a matter of "my opinion." To be blunt, neither "my opinion" nor what you "think" is of relevance or solicited. Instead, you would have seen a complete tin roof rather than an "almost" tin awning and complete stone pilings rather than "partly" stone pilings. You would have seen the many other items that are not present but were agreed to. Your article makes it appear to those who have not been involved that we are just being nit-picky, but more importantly it misses the whole point of what has occurred between the community and the developer. Reporting of this nature, even in a little article such as it was, does your readers an injustice. This is not reporting of the truth, nor the facts, and only helps to break down that bond of trust.
