Faux Beatles, blues on tap
By JORGE SANCHEZ, Times Staff Writer There's plenty of live music this weekend, from a faux-Beatles concert at Rock Crusher Canyon to electric blues by the Homosassa River. The early songs and sights of the Beatles will be re-created at Rock Crusher Canyon Amphitheater in a concert at 7 p.m. today. The band strives to capture the Beatles as they looked and sounded in the early to mid '60s, an era Mark Benson a k a John Lennon refers to as "the mop-top Beatles." This is 1964's second appearance at the amphitheater. A show last year drew about 3,500 fans. Doors open at 5 p.m, as does the VIP buffet, and the concert begins at 7 p.m. Day of show ticket prices are $20 for general admission and $35 for VIP. The VIP ticket includes a buffet, choice seating and free parking. There is a $5 parking fee for general admission ticket holders. The venue is at 275 S Rock Crusher Road, Crystal River. Call 795-1313. Blues fans can hear The Accelerators play Chicago-style blues today at The Shed, a tiki bar in Homosassa at the end of Cherokee Drive by the river. The Accelerators are based in Dunnellon but are frequently on regional tours. They recently released a CD Long Time Coming, featuring their blues mentor Bo Diddley on one cut. The band plays in the electric style of blues bands such as Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy and Howlin' Wolf. The Accelerators feature Keith Caton on standard and slide guitar and Kim Harpo on harmonica.
