Stacy Nethercoat says she likes a fast-paced work environment. Good thing.

As of March 1, she assumed more responsibilities at Tech Data in Clearwater. She is in charge of four divisions with her promotion to vice president of inside sales and services.

Her new duties include overseeing two sales division: one focused on customers with annual revenues of $500,000 or less, the other on new customers. She also oversees the company's customer service operations as well as Tech Data's government services.

Her new position makes her responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functions of managing customer accounts, including back-office processes, budget and contract development, and sales and support services. Prior to her promotion, Nethercoat assumed the role of pricing consultant to the company's European operations.

Upon joining Tech Data in 1995, Nethercoat "started in the finance area, then operations, then sales."

"I've gotten a broad base of experience across Tech Data," she said. "Stepping into this role is not as difficult as it may seem."

She doesn't do all this oversight alone, Nethercoat says. Division directors and their management teams help. And she is still learning sales and customer services, she said.

In sales, for example, she plans this month to "go out and sit on the floor and do what we call a plug-in with some sales managers and sales representatives to get a flavor of what they are talking about" with customers.

Before moving to Clearwater with her family in 1995, Nethercoat served in various inventory, accounting, training and marketing roles with such companies as Lucky Stores, a supermarket chain in California, for nearly four years, and American Bankers Insurance Group in Miami for five years.

Nethercoat earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Iowa in 1986. Once her family was relocated to this area, Nethercoat said she starting looking for a position similar to what she held in California and Miami. "I had worked for large companies previously with fast-paced working environments," she said, so she was attracted to Tech Data.

"I thrive in an environment of change," Nethercoat said. "I love the fact that I've been given the opportunity to impact the company."

Nethercoat, 38, is married and has two children.

Founded in 1974, Tech Data is a worldwide provider of IT products, logistics management and other value-added services to more than 100,000 technology resellers. The company generated sales of $18.3-billion for its most recently reported four quarters. It is ranked 95th on the Fortune 500 list.
