SPRING HILL -- Former Springstead High School star soccer player Kristen Bernhardt died Sunday in a one-car accident on Shoal Line Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Bernhardt, 21, was traveling north about 10:20 a.m. when she lost control, veering onto the east shoulder. She was thrown from the car after it overturned, the report said.

Bernhardt was one of three people who died this weekend in traffic accidents. A crash Saturday led to two deaths. Robert Adams, 73, died Saturday after his car was struck in the side on U.S. 19. His wife, Ethel June Adams, 68, who was a passenger, died Sunday.

During high school, Bernhardt was a member of the Times' All-Suncoast Team in 1997. After graduating in 1998, she went to play soccer at the University of North Florida.

Adams of New Kensington, Pa., pulled off Trenton Avenue, which runs between Red Lobster and McDonald's, to turn south on U.S. 19. His car was struck by a northbound 2001 Chevrolet driven by Chad Minor Moore, 29, of 10047 Domingo Drive, Brooksville, a Florida Highway Patrol report said.

Adams' 2000 Ford overturned. Both he and his wife were thrown from the car. Adams was killed instantly; his wife died later of her injuries at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, the FHP report said.

Neither wore a seat belt.

The passenger in Moore's car, Donald Lacourse, 45, 17829 Carthage Ave. in Spring Hill, was treated and released from Spring Hill Regional Hospital. Moore was in stable condition at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

Both wore seat belts.

Charges are pending in the Saturday accident, the FHP said.
