By Times staff writer FCAT inquiry brings unpaid suspensionBROOKSVILLE -- A Moton Elementary School teacher accused of violating a state test security law during an FCAT exam last month was suspended without pay Tuesday night by the School Board. Carolyn M. Sunderland, 58, had been on paid leave since the charge was raised that she may have altered or interferred with student answers on an FCAT math exam given March 13. Aside from a violation of state education rules, test security violations are also a misdemeanor punishable by up to a $1,000 fine, 90 days in jail or both. District officials said Sunderland would remain suspended until their investigation is complete, which could take another two weeks. If she is cleared of the charge, she could receive back pay for time she was on unpaid suspension.
