Signing

Largo senior Michael Gately will attend Eckerd College next fall where he will run track and cross country.

He has the third fastest 3,200-meter time in the county (10:40) this season.

Soccer

The Largo United Wolves under-10 girls team recently captured the Region C Division 1 championship with a 2-1 win against Countryside.

The defense, anchored by Mary-Ann Krlin, Queli Ornelas, Melina Cox-Ferreras, Kaley Blades, Morgan Pyle and goalkeeper Alyssa Doheny, allowed six shots in the final two games and gave up one goal.

Blades and Ornelas scored Largo's goals in the title game.

Jenny Reutschi, Kim Conway and Erin Neikirk of Osceola, Megan Balmer of East Lake and Katie Caughell of Countryside competed recently for the West team in the FACA All-Star tournament.

The West reached the championship game with a 3-1 win against the East as Reutschi had two goals and Caughell one.

In the title game, the West lost to the South with Balmer scoring the only goal.

The Strictly Soccer under-10 boys team recently won the Countryside International Easter Tournament by defeating Palm Bay United from Melbourne 4-0.

It was the second title in two weeks after the team won the West Central Florida Region C title by beating the St. Petersburg Raiders.

Roller hockey

The Blackhawks recently won the Palm Harbor spring 11-and-under championship by completing a perfect 11-0 season with a 6-4 win against the Red Wings in the title game.

During the season, the Blackhawks, led by top scorer Kyle McDermott, scored 100 goals and gave up 21.

Other top scorers included Nick Nolan, Caleb Lane, Thomas Hansell and Kris McDermott.

The defense was led by Matt Farrell, Ryan Scholz and goalie Mark Brown.

Football

A free combine, sponsored by Pinellas County coaches, will be held at 1 p.m. May 5 at Clearwater Central Catholic for all high school sophomore and junior players.

Participants will be tested in the 40-yard dash, pro shuttle, vertical jump and 225-pound bench press repetition. Results will be sent to colleges around the country.

Players need not bring pads, but should bring cleats and a copy of their transcript.
