Carrot Top calling

Carrot Top calling

The ubiquitous Carrot Top, that flame-haired fixture on those annoying AT&T commercials, says being a pitchman is getting in the way of his standup act, which he brings to Ruth Eckerd Hall on Saturday at 8 p.m.

"It's kind of a bummer because I've done this 15 years, and I have a live show that some people have never seen, but at the same time, I now have a new audience to introduce it to," Carrot Top (a.k.a. Scott Thompson) recently told the Duluth News-Tribune. "There are people who are familiar with my act and people who are familiar with my phone stuff."

Other than those long-distance ads and appearances on Leno, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and The Weakest Link, the Cocoa Beach native, who uses laser lights and rock music to turn his live act into an extravaganza, is perhaps best known for his many stage props. Among them has been a miniature toilet, which Carrot Top turned into a plate for those with bulimia.

Guess you had to be there.

Carrot Top performs at 8 p.m. Saturday at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater. Tickets are $29.75-$45. Call (727) 791-7400.
