Savoring New Tampa
By Times staff writer TAMPA PALMS -- Forty-five New Tampa restaurants and businesses will spread food, drink and good cheer at Sunday's Taste of New Tampa. The seventh annual event runs from noon to 4 p.m. at the Shoppes of Amberly, just east of the intersection of Amberly Drive and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. Tickets are $10 and edibles include pasta, subs, steaks, burritos, sushi and raw oysters. Proceeds from the event will go to New Tampa schools. Nearly 70 local businesses, churches and civic groups will set up booths and hand out flyers. Last year, 6,000 people attended the event. This year, children can take home balloon animals from the University Mall Raggs Kids Club. They can also swing on the monkey bars, bounce on a trampoline and get their faces painted at the "Tumble Bus." The Supervisor of Elections Office will be displaying the new voting machines and registering new and relocated voters. Father Eric and the Deacon Blues Band will perform along with student choruses from Tampa Palms Elementary, Pride Elementary and Sand Pine Elementary. Parking will be available on each side of Amberly Drive from Bruce B. Downs to Live Oaks Plantation apartments. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
