NEW PORT RICHEY -- There were two distinct smiles at Friday night's 10th annual Suncoast Relays. No surprise, they belonged to Wesley Chapel boys coach Brian Colding and Ridgewood girls coach Sue Vien.

The Wildcats and Rams were their usual talented, deep and consistent selves en route to winning titles at Gulf's Des Little Stadium.

It was the last tuneup before next week's Sunshine Athletic Conference meet, when Pasco County's best will compete.

The Wesley Chapel boys scored 108 points over runner-up Ridgewood's 88, with Zephyrhills third with 70.

The Ridgewood girls scored 130, and close behind was Wesley Chapel with 96. Mitchell had 63, edging River Ridge for third by two points.

"I think that any time your kids come out and perform like they did today, it shows their improvement and hard work," Colding said, "and that's got to be a great boost going into conference."

Tim Davis led the Wildcats with a school-record discus throw of 158 feet, 8 inches -- nearly 15 inches better than his his previous record -- joining Jordan Barthle and Angel Domenech to win the discus relay with a combined distance of 374-7. Davis Simpson, Marcus Stewart and Nigel Bryant each triple-jumped more than 40 feet to capture that relay event with a combined 121-73/4.

The Wildcats also ruled the relays. Kurt Able, David Forry, Kevin Forstadt and Jose Arroyo won the cross-country relay (29 points) and the 'Cats took the 1,600-meter relay as well (3:30.82).

The 4x100 squad of Chuwuka Ayetin, RaShawn Harris, Greg Harrison and anchor Aaron Dickler won (44.47), as did the 4x200 squad of Ayetin, Dickler, Harris and Stewart (1:35.98). Nick Carter, Jonathan Muhammed, B.B. Roberts and Kenny "Junior" Roberts won the 4x400 (3:41.34).

Mitchell's 4x800 team of Eric Evans, Jeff Masterson, Reggie Moise and Danny Sheehan won (8:50.25), as did Ridgewood's shot-put relay team of Robby Coghlan, Jason Krupinski and Adamm Oliver (164-101/2).

Ridgewood won two co-ed relays and five girls events. Jen Hayes, Dawn Gryce, Chris Vergnaud and Brandon Bittiker won the co-ed shuttle hurdles (1:05.23) and Carrie Brievik, LeMeka McClendon, Jason Krupinski and Adamm Oliver won the hurlers relay (54.30).

Felicia Hunt, Tiffany Powell and Hayes won the long jump relay (421/4). Veronica Berrios, Michelle Cotharin, Ashley Krupinski and Powell won the 1,600 medley (4:45.86).

Wesley Chapel's Jasmine Cabrera, Kendall Smith, Angela Medvid and Autumn Yanchunnis won the 4x100 (53.51) and 4x200 (1:54.73.) Central's Jamie Costanzo, Jane McDonald, Tiffany Mobley and Sarah Rosario won the 4x400 (4:31.56) and Michelle Cruz, Felicia Hunt and Sarah Tooman won the discus relay (245-0). Land O'Lakes took the 4x800 with Debra Mann, Jamie Myers, Dani Shimer and Jessica Worthington (10:35.38). River Ridge's Danielle Coyle, Amber DeFranco, Samantha Jacobsen and Christine MacAvoy won the cross-country relay (30 points).

Zephyrhills won the co-ed sprint medley relay (1:47.52) as Tiffany Tucker and Drew Barthle ran the 100 and Erica Graham and Robert Yonkoff the 200. Land O'Lakes just barely took the co-ed distance relay (8:12.31), with Chase Detari, Dani Shimer, Mike Renteria and Myers winning by .02 seconds.
