PETERSBURG -- A Chevrolet Geo went through a red light Monday and caused a crash that left an 89-year-old woman and her 58-year-old son severely injured, police said. The Geo crashed into a Lincoln Continental, which careened into a utility pole. The accident occurred about 10:20 a.m. at 28th Street and Fifth Avenue S, said St. Petersburg police spokesman George Kajtsa. One of two people in the Geo ran from the scene after the wreck. The other, Gary Mitchell, 17, told police he was not driving the car. No charges were filed by late Monday and authorities were still investigating. The injured woman, Marjorie Morea, was in critical condition, and her son, Joseph Morea, was in fair condition at Bayfront Medical Center Monday afternoon. Kajtsa said both are from Baltimore. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
