Ex-UF president named chancellor in Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. -- Former University of Florida president John Lombardi has been selected chancellor of the University of Massachusetts' main campus at Amherst.
Lombardi, credited with increasing diversity and improving academic programs at Florida was praised by UMass officials as a strong leader. "John Lombardi has demonstrated that he has the capacity to inspire greatness," said UMass president William Bulger.
Lombardi, 60, stepped down as UF president in 1999. He currently directs the school's Center for Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
