Comic relief in a busy schedule
Kevin Pollak went back to the standup circuit last year as job security in case the threatened actors' strike really happened. The strike was averted, but Pollak stayed on the road.
"I had no idea it would go this well or be this fun," he told the Omaha World-Herald recently.
It's not as if Pollak needs the comedy circuit to keep him busy. The actor has made more than 40 films, including A Few Good Men, The Usual Suspects, 3000 Miles to Graceland and Dr. Dolittle 2.
He has a half dozen projects in the works or about to be released, including Blizzard, with Pollak as Santa's chief elf; a couple of comedies; his directorial debut; and Stolen Summer, the film that the HBO series Project Greenlight followed through production.
The usually genial Pollak was harsh in his criticism of the HBO series. He said he was "horrified" by the series and charged that the footage was manipulated to create tension where none existed.
Pollak returns to Tampa this weekend for five shows at the Improv: 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets range from $18 to $22 in advance, $2 more at the door. The Improv is at 1600 E Eighth Ave. in Centro Ybor. For information, call (813) 864-4000.
