Gorilla Theatre stages Chekhov

Obscure Chekhov gets a staging this month by the Gorilla Theatre in a trio of short plays by the Russian master: The Evils of Tobacco, The Proposal and Swan Song. Directed by Gorilla co-founder Aubrey Hampton, the threesome are more comic than the usual Chekhov fare, melancholy classics such as Three Sisters and The Cherry Orchard. Starring in The Proposal are, from left, Emily Burrell, Ron Sommer and Jon Van Middlesworth.

Gorilla's Chekhov triple bill opens tonight and continues through April 28. Performances are 7 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets: $19 and $22. (813) 879-2914.
