An expanded Festa Italiana

An expanded Festa Italiana

The annual Festa Italiana highlights Italian culture in Ybor City on Sunday afternoon, but this year, the festivities will expand to include events tonight and Saturday evening.

The first event is a fundraiser for the festival with music by Aramire and Compagnia Folklorica Trinacria at Carmine's on Seventh, 1802 E Seventh Ave., beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.

A block party from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Seventh Avenue and 18th Street offers a preview of the big event, with music by Aramire, a boccie-ball tournament and other entertainment. It is free.

The big party, though, is Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Centennial Park, Eighth Avenue and 18th Street, Ybor City. More than 30 restaurants and food vendors will offer samples (for a fee) during the Taste of Italy. Entertainment includes Aramire, Arturo Coppola and Compagnia Folklorica Trinacia and local Italian entertainers.

Other activities: a kid's area, grape stomping, a cooking school, car show and more.

All events are sponsored by L'Unione Italiana. Admission is $2. For more information, call (813) 247-4731, ext. 628, or www.festaitalianatampa.com.
