1. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial -- Steven Spielberg remastered his 1982 fantasy with enhanced special effects, a bit of new footage and politically correct digital revisions. Still a classic.
2. Monster's Ball -- An excellent ensemble cast -- especially Oscar winner Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton -- breathes life into a suffocating tragedy of racism, capital punishment and family skeletons.
3. The Rookie -- Late-blooming pitcher Jim Morris (Dennis Quaid) beats the odds to become a middle-aged major-league rookie for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
4. Changing Lanes -- Smartly produced thriller starring Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Affleck as motorists whose minor accident produces major consequences.
5. Y Tu Mama Tambien -- Oversexed teenagers escort a sultry housewife to a beach paradise. Graphic sexuality will offend some viewers. Subtitled and not rated, but it should be NC-17.
