Dance, music, more herald weekend

Do the Hustle! Or hear an orchestra salute. Tune in to some folk, rock or country, or view classic toys and cars.

A disco dance party and classical music highlight this weekend's entertainment scene.

For those of you who didn't get enough of the '70s, put on your polyester suit and boogie shoes and head over to the Kellner Center, on Civic Circle in Beverly Hills, for a 1970s dance sponsored by the Spirit of Citrus Ballroom dancers. The music starts at 7:30 p.m. today, with free Hustle lessons offered at 7. Admission is $4 for members of the dance group and $6 for nonmembers.

The Florida Philharmonic Orchestra plans a salute to the nation's heroes at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Curtis Peterson Auditorium at Lecanto High School.

The music includes Paul Whiteman's Grand Canyon Suite, Ottorino Respighi's Fountains of Rome and Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, as well as portions from the scores of Schindler's List and Porgy and Bess.

The concert will also feature a premier performance of Princess of the Northern Lights by Sonya Lenore Stahl, a music major at the University of Florida.

Tickets are the door are $15 for adults and $7 for students.

Folk music fans can hear Amy Carol Webb from 2:30 to 4:45 p.m. Sunday at the Dunnellon Middle School theater, on Park Avenue off U.S. 41 N. Webb has been winning audiences over with soul-stirring performances of her original material. She won first, third and fourth place in this year's Best New Florida Song Contest sponsored by the Will McLean Foundation. Admission is $7 at the door.

OLD COURTHOUSE EXHIBIT: The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum hosts Florida Girls & Boys and Their Toys, a display of photographs and panels showing how toys have evolved over the years. CAR SHOW: The Homosassa Springs Area Chamber of Commerce hosts its 12th annual antique and classic car show from 9 a.m. to noon today at the Homosassa Riverside Resort. Admission is free.
