Man accused of having weapons outside school
By Times staff writer LAND O'LAKES -- A 47-year-old city of Tampa employee was arrested early Thursday, accused of carrying weapons onto the campus of Pine View Middle School, 5344 Parkway Blvd. Sheriff's deputies said Kevin Heald, of 3743 St. Augustine Place in Land O'Lakes, parked his car at the school and walked to the south end of the dark schoolyard about 1 a.m. Deputies approached Heald and asked what he was doing. He said that he was jogging and that a deputy who works at the school had given him permission to run in the area. Authorities called the deputy, who denied knowing Heald, and they also noticed that he didn't appear to have been exercising. Heald was carrying a steel folding knife with him, which he told deputies was for protection. He also had a black .38-caliber revolver on the front seat of his car. Heald, a management analyst in Tampa, faces charges of trespassing on school property with a weapon. He was taken to the Land O'Lakes jail and released later Thursday without having to post bail. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
