Citrus slices
By Times staff writer Same people, but different hatsMeetings, meetings, meetings. Seems like people who work in health care and social services are always attending meetings. There is the Shared Services Alliance, the Children's Services Council, the school readiness coalition, and on and on. Ginger West of the Family Resource Center attends all kinds of meetings. And she usually sees the same people sitting with her at the table. Her proposal: "Let's just have one big meeting, once a month, and just every hour change the name" of the group that is meeting, West said. She was kidding. Sort of. I'LL DRINK TO THAT: As a rule, alcohol is prohibited at all county facilities. So when the residents of Citrus Springs wanted to serve wine at their new community center, they had to come to the County Commission for permission. Commission Chairman Jim Fowler looked at the group's request Tuesday, then looked into the dwindling audience at the commission meeting to find the staff expert on the matter. "Alcoholic beverages: Would that be you, Mr. Saunders?" Fowler asked. Ken Saunders, the assistant county administrator, hesitated. "No," he replied. "But I'll take one." PARTY ON: Despite the talk of political infighting, there are times when Republicans and Democrats work together to achieve a common goal. Like improving education or fighting the war on terrorism. Or cleaning up the litter in Beverly Hills. In that spirit, Beverly Hills resident Dave Conant publicly thanked County Commissioner Josh Wooten last week for helping with the community's recent cleanup. "Even though you are a Democrat," Conant said grudgingly, "thank you very much." No problem, Wooten said. "We're used to working." BUMPER STICKERS WE LIKE: Jesus is coming. Look busy. -- Times staff writer Jim Ross compiled this report.
