Shop owner faced with knife halts thief pursuit

PORT RICHEY -- While one man fled capture after stealing from a flea market merchant, another pulled a knife to get the shopowner to stop the chase Saturday afternoon, Pasco County sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies said the owner of the Gold N' Time shop in USA Fleamarket, 11721 U.S. 19, was showing one of the men some jewelry in a case when he turned around to pick up a scale. When he did that, the man snatched some jewelry from the case and ran.

The owner gave chase, but when they got into the parking lot, another man was waiting by a car. He pulled a knife and the owner of the shop stopped chasing the thief, he told sheriff's deputies.

The two men drove off in a beige Mitsubishi with New York license tags going north on U.S. 19.
