Dunedin mayor to lead aging agency's board

DUNEDIN -- Dunedin Mayor Tom Anderson has been elected president of the board of directors for the Area Agency on Aging for Pasco and Pinellas County. The nonprofit group contracts with other agencies, such as Neighborly Senior Services and Community Aging and Retirement Services Inc., to provide programs for older people. Anderson, who was vice president of the organization last year, joined the board four years ago and will replace Sallie Parks as president. "It's an area that I have a great deal of interest in," Anderson, 69, said. "We're hoping to improve services to seniors in Pasco and Pinellas County, as well as improve the services to the caregivers, which is a very important part of the program." The agency operated on a budget of $25-million, mostly from state and federal grants. Anderson, who was elected to the position March 1, will preside over 17 other board members.
