ESPN deal cuts Rays TV coverage

If you want to watch the Rays on Wednesdays, you'll need cable, and even then it won't be every Wednesday game.
Though local station WMOR-Ch. 32 will carry 54 Rays games on over-the-air television, it is prohibited (as is every other over-the-air channel in the country) from broadcasting games Wednesday because of ESPN's contract with Major League Baseball.
Only regional sports cable networks, in the Rays' case Fox Sports Net Florida, can broadcast games against ESPN on Wednesdays. But because Fox Sports Net also does Marlins games, the network has to strike a balance between the teams.
"What we try to do is ... divide up Wednesday between the Marlins and Devil Rays to strike as best we can a fair and equitable balance of Wednesday night coverage," said Jeff Genthner, the general manager for Fox Sports Net Florida.
Tonight Fox Sports Net will televise a Marlins game, then next week the Rays, followed by the Marlins. Then the Rays get consecutive Wednesdays.
