Class notesBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published April 18, 2002 PRE-K NIGHT AT FCE: Parents of children who will be 4 years old by Sept. 1 are invited to attend an open house with their children at Floral City Elementary School from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 23 in the cafeteria. Parents will receive information about the pre-kindergarten program and tips about inexpensive things to do at home to help prepare children for school. There will be pizza, door prizes and activities. EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY: -- The Educational Opportunity Center, in conjunction with Central Florida Community College, will hold an information session on pursuing a GED, occupational certificate or degree at 1 p.m. Saturday at Coastal Region Library, 8619 W Crystal St. For information, call Becca at 746-6721, ext. 6147. PREKINDERGARTEN, HEAD START APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE: Applications for prekindergarten, Head Start and subsidized child care are now available at any county elementary school and the Childhood Development Services Office at 5641 U.S. 41 in Crystal River. LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY PROGRAM: Central Florida Community College's Criminal Justice Institute is accepting applications for its Law Enforcement Academy program that begins in May. Classes will meet from 6-10 p.m. weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. For information on the application process and the program, call Bill Lemieux at (352) 873-5838. NAIL SPECIALTY TECHNICIAN CLASS: Withlacoochee Technical Institute is offering a summer nail specialty technician class from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday from June 3 to Aug. 1. Attendance is mandatory. The cost is $600 and includes tuition, books, kit and materials. Financial assistance is available. For information, call 726-2430. CFCC PRESENTS ONE-ACT PLAYS: About 40 Central Florida Community College students will present One-Act Plays -- Snowball, Girls to the Rescue, For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls and Proposin' -- as part of the college's two Play Production classes taught by Theatre CFCC Director Dave Hartley. Show times are set for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the CFCC Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road. Admission is $2 for the general public. CFCC students and staff are admitted free with a valid college ID. Tickets are available at the door or in advance through the CFCC Box Office, (352) 873-5810 CHS AWARDS NIGHT: The annual Citrus High School awards night will be held at 7 p.m. May 7 in the high school cafeteria. Graduating seniors will be recognized for their academic achievements. Last year the graduating class received $1,775,564.00 in scholarship grants and awards.
